David Cuenca Solana is a Degree in History from the University of Cantabria (2006).
Subsequently, thanks to obtaining a contract pre-doctoral Program of research Staff in Training Pre-doctoral, University of Cantabria, he obtained the title of Doctor in Philosophy and Letters with International doctorate by the University of Cantabria (2012).
This research was subsequently awarded the extraordinary prize of doctorate as the best Thesis in the area of Arts and Humanities of the University of Cantabria, in the year 2014.
In this work, we analyzed, through the methodology of functional analysis, the employment of the instruments of shell in different contexts located in a wide geographical area of the european Atlantic coast, specifically the south and north of the Iberian Peninsula and north-west of France.
From the chronological point of view, this research involved the development of diachronic from the Aurignacian to a more advanced phase of the Neolithic.
Between the years of 2013 and 2015, she developed her research at the Centre de Recherche en'archéologie Archéosciences Histoire (CReAAH, UMR6566) of the Université de Rennes 1 (Rennes, France) by obtaining a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Foundation Fyssen.
During this period his work was oriented to the analysis of the transitional Mesolithic-Neolithic through the study of the technological changes that have occurred in the last populations of hunter-gatherers and the first companies producing surpluses.
During the development of this project were analyzed from more than a dozen sites located in the atlantic coast and the mediterranean in Spain, France and Portugal. Subsequently, from June 2016 to be reintegrated back to the IIICP thanks to a contract postdoctoral Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
Since August 2019, is Assistant Professor in Prehistory in the Department of Historical Sciences of the University of Cantabria.
During his pre-doctoral and postdoctoral has had several stays in the Netherlands (Faculty of Archaeology, University of Leiden), Spain (technology Laboratory Prehistoric Department of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Institution Milá i Fontanals. MFI-CSISC) or France (Cultures et Environnements Préhistoire, Antiquité, Moyen'âge. CEPAM – UMR 7264).
He is currently co-director of the excavation of the site mesolithic of The Deck (Asturias) and a member of the research group in the context mesolithic era of Beg-er-Vil (Morbihan, France).
