Geoarchaeology and characterization of archaeological materials
The Group of Geoarchaeology and characterization of archaeological materials develops a research activity related to the protection and conservation of archaeological sites. In collaboration with the ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Cantabria, as well as the Museum of Altamira, you are doing different projects of study geomorphological and evaluation of geological risk for the tours in Cantabria caves: Altamira cave, El Castillo, Coins, Hornos de La Peña, Chufín, Covalanas, Cullalvera and Pendo. Some of them are included in the list of Heritage of Humanity.
On the other hand, the group is working on the identification, description and inventory of the geological heritage, to know its origin, its evolution in the past, and likely future, and, in such a way that it is possible to gather useful data for dissemination and their value.

In addition, it carries out research projects related to the physico-chemical characterization of archaeological materials using techniques of scanning electron microscopy, mechanical testing and analysis of spectral images.
